Project Casestudy

About Project

In the span of 10 weeks, we were tasked to design a product that addresses human memory. After a rigorous process of research & ideation, my group designed a platform that provides a safe space for people to restructure their negative thoughts through gamified journaling.

I was responsible for conducting the user and app content research, which extended to several UX design tasks such as UX writing, wireframing & user testing.

DEFINING THE PROBLEM

How might we change the way people perceive their negative experiences?

The Problem

Memories we associate with negative emotions limit our perspective and influence our future life experiences by reinforcing negative thought patterns which shape our daily lifestyle.

Our Solution

mindfulness app that provides a safe space through journaling & recommends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) exercises to change negative thoughts into positive ones.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Looking back at the project

This project taught me to never settle with the first idea and to keep questioning "how can we make this better?" It was through this process that we landed on the idea of Brighter. Ideas on their own are not all unique but it's all about their execution. I also learned about the importance of the research that goes into the project because our app content relied heavily on that. This project was also my first time working on the copy of the app content so closely. Because of the sensitive nature of our app's topic, the copy within the app had to evoke feelings of safety & that their feelings were valid, no matter how they were feeling.

I am so grateful for the experience of working with this talented team. The journey to getting to Brighter has been a challenging yet rewarding and gratifying one. Without our diverse skills coming together and the passion each person brought to the project, this would not have been possible.

INTRODUCTION

Project Overview

Gain insights and trends

View your mood trends and emotional triggers to gain a better understanding of yourself based on journal entries. Trends and insights are presented in the form of data visualizations.

Non-judgemental metaphorical safe space

The app provides a metaphorical safe space in the form of a home which is a representation of you. Decorate & customize your safe space based on your app activity.

Multi-input journal entries

Express your thoughts, feelings, or reflections by either typing or speaking out loud. View journal entry breakdowns to see your progress.

Science-backed CBT Exercises

Our emotional assistant, El, guides you through CBT exercises to help restructure negative thoughts towards a positive perspective. The exercises are based off user journal entries.
